Words for the Southern Soul

One of my recent obsessions has been Deep South Magazine.

Deep South Magazine is an online magazine featuring all the glories of the South in fun and interesting articles and blogs. The writing style of these posts are sweetly Southern as well, oozing with detailed descriptions and sassy sound bites. It is a true treasure and I highly suggest everyone read it!

Deep South recently came out of a Southern Summer Reading List chopped full of great books. As an avid reader I have been looking forward to my summer readings and this is a perfect list to start me off. There are three in particular that I am dying to pick up; Summer in the South, Sweet Jiminy and Georgia Bottoms.

There is something about secrets that can always draw me into a book and Cathy Holton's Summer in the South seems to engage in just that. Writer Ava leaves the cold North to head down to Tennessee for the summer to visit a friend and finds herself knee-deep in family secrets. Who doesn't love a little gossip from time to time?

With law school and lawyers being a big part of my life with Jon, Sweet Jiminy by Kristin Gore shows once again that law school is no easy task. Jiminy as had enough of law school and the North though and runs to hide in the Southern shelter of her grandmother's farm. There she finds the truth about her namesake and the mysteries that surrond it. A whodunit is always fun for summer, an adventure for sure!

There is something about Mark Childress that knows what it is like to be a Southern woman and his newest novel Georgia Bottoms is no different. Georgia Bottoms is the eptiome of a Southern sweetheart; a beautiful baker, a devout follower of the faith, soft spoken but loud when need be and full of secrets. Georgia is very familiar with some of the men of her town and she will do anything to make sure none of them let out that piece of information. I'm dying to know what she wil do!
